RuralCheck for AI assistants
Your AI assistant can run RuralCheck's checks for you. Ask Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant about a plot. It asks RuralCheck for the checks your question needs and answers with the figures and their sources.
Setup
The server is at https://ruralcheck.eu/mcp. Claude and ChatGPT ask you to sign in
to RuralCheck and allow the connection. For the others, make an API key on your
account page and send it as
Authorization: Bearer rc_....
Claude
On claude.ai and in the Claude apps:
- Open Customize, then Connectors.
- Select +, then Add custom connector.
- Enter
https://ruralcheck.eu/mcpand select Add. - Select Connect, sign in to RuralCheck and choose Allow.
ChatGPT
- In Settings, open Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
- Open Plugins and select +.
- Enter the name RuralCheck and the address
https://ruralcheck.eu/mcp. - Create it, sign in to RuralCheck when asked and choose Allow.
Developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http ruralcheck https://ruralcheck.eu/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer rc_..."
Cursor
In ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"ruralcheck": {
"url": "https://ruralcheck.eu/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer rc_..." }
}
}
}
VS Code
In .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"ruralcheck": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://ruralcheck.eu/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer rc_..." }
}
}
}
Claude Desktop and other assistants
These run the server on your own computer. It needs
uv. Add this to the assistant's MCP
settings, for Claude Desktop in claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"ruralcheck": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": [
"--from", "git+https://github.com/cmosig/ruralcheck-mcp",
"ruralcheck-mcp"
],
"env": { "RURALCHECK_API_KEY": "rc_..." }
}
}
}
Every connected assistant is listed with your API keys on your account page. Revoke it there to disconnect it.
An assistant can keep reports in Saved plots, sort them into folders and move them to the Trash. It cannot delete a plot for good. Plots in the Trash are deleted 30 days after they were moved there, and you can restore them until then.
Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
find_place | Finds a town or village by name. Street addresses are not searchable. |
check_coverage | Says whether reports are made for a point. |
list_checks | Lists every check, with what it covers and how long it takes. |
analyse_plot | Runs the checks you name for one point and returns the results. |
get_report | Fetches a report that took longer than one call waits. |
sample_report | Returns the sample report for a 4 ha plot at Trémolat, Dordogne. |
upload_listings | Professional plan. Sends your listings. Each becomes a saved plot with a full report and a client link. |
get_listing_upload | Shows an upload's progress, with each listing's client link or the reason it was not run. |
list_listing_uploads | Lists your uploads and how far each has got. |
list_plots | Lists the plots in Saved plots, in one folder or in the Trash. |
get_plot | Returns a saved plot with its report as it was kept. |
save_plot | Keeps a report in Saved plots, in a folder if you name one. |
update_plot | Renames a saved plot or changes its note. |
file_plot | Moves a saved plot into a folder, or out of one. |
delete_plot | Moves a saved plot to the Trash. You can restore it for 30 days. |
restore_plot | Takes a plot out of the Trash. |
list_folders | Lists your folders. |
create_folder | Makes a folder. |
rename_folder | Renames a folder. |
delete_folder | Deletes a folder. Its plots stay in Saved plots. |
Usage
Paid plans include every check, with no limit on the number of reports. An assistant asks only for the checks your question needs, so most answers take a few seconds.
Example
Asked “Is the plot at 48.015, 8.19 near Furtwangen at risk of river flooding, and how noisy is it?”, an assistant checks that the point is covered and then runs the flood and noise checks only. It answers in a few seconds: no river flood area is mapped within 5 km, and road noise is about 46 dB, mostly from a main road 750 m away.
Use of results
Results are for your own use, the same as a report on the map. Your assistant may read them for you. You may not pass them on to other people, show them in a website or app, or collect them to build a dataset. The sources listed with each answer have to stay with any copy you keep. The terms set this out in full.
Automated visitors
Agents may read every public page on this site. For reports, use the MCP server or the API. They return the same figures as the map, in a form a program can read. A summary for language models is at /llms.txt.
